Here he is talking about <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.salon.com\/0002007\/2004\/11\/14.html#a951\">Surviving Trauma<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If the response of a species were to grieve for years<br \/>\nover the loss, or over a decision error that may have cost a loved one<br \/>\ntheir life, the species would not survive &#8212; it would be incapacitated.<br \/>\nIn a balanced ecosystem, these traumatic events are regular but not<br \/>\nchronic &#8212; most species spend most of their time in the joyous<br \/>\nactivities of eating, exploring, mating, playing, sleeping, and sensing<br \/>\nthe world around them. Their failure to grieve, at least for long, is<br \/>\nin my opinion due not to their small brains but to the fact that there<br \/>\nis too much joy and wonder in the world to waste much time grieving<br \/>\nover what happened or might have happened. It&#8217;s Darwinian &#8212; it happens<br \/>\nthat way because it works, it optimizes the healthy survival of the<br \/>\nspecies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Reading &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.salon.com\/0002007\/\">How to Save the World<\/a>&#8221; really makes me think.  Again<br \/>\nhe is able to put into worlds some of the deep feelings that I have but<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t quite understand enough to be able to put into words.  The<br \/>\npain I sometimes feel about what the girls have lost, the idea that<br \/>\nthere are things they will never be able to do because of the loss of<br \/>\nCindy,  These are <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.salon.com\/0002007\/2003\/05\/23.html#a242\">regrets for things that haven&#8217;t happened<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dave Pollard says things that I can sense but not put into words.
