After posting my item with…

After posting my item with my thoughts about music and a portable wireless (Internet) music receiver, guess what?  It’s starting to happen, at least for Jenny the Shifted Librarian.

This is the kind of…

This is the kind of software I really like. Happy Wife I always wanted to get one of those “I heart my wife’s head” bumper stickers for my car.

We have company coming over…

We have company coming over this weekend.  I need to clean up the house.  I just read one of the articles linked here, under the heading The Junk Man Knows, and I am suddenly convinced that if we were living in a more confined space I too would soon be one of those people that get injured when one of the piles of collected valuable “stuff” falls over on me :O

“We were there because the prospect of cleaning up the house after Christmas had struck me as unpleasant and oppressive, whereas the prospect of driving out to Burbank and eating a meatball lunch in the Ikea cafeteria had struck me as attractive and spirit-lifting. Best of all, we would not be shirking the work back home; we would be beginning itóor so I persuaded myself.”

It’s scary to realize that I did exactly that last year after Christmas, except I went to K-Mart and Ace Hardware to get my storage bins where the food isn’t known to be that good.

Balloons are fun!

A picture named IMGP0500.jpg
Balloons are fun!

Especially when they are designed to fly around the room making that high pitched wildly squealing sound.  Try it with a dozen balloons t once!  It’s really really really fun 🙂

BETH NIELSEN CHAPMAN

BETH NIELSEN CHAPMAN
“ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD”

All the time in the world
Climbs the walls, swells the doors
It goes flying out the window
All the time in the world…
These precious days we live through
Thrown away like tissue
I wish that I could give you
all the time in the world

Halley had a dream of…

Halley had a dream of beer last night.  I had a dream of Cindy last night.

It was another of those dreams where everything is “normal” and there isn’t anything special going on.  I think we were driving somewhere and she was commenting on how there was nothing funny about death.  I thought to myself that sure is true for her, her grandparents died, her father died and then she…

It’s always at that point where the conscious mind starts to realize what’s going on and makes me want to start telling Cindy about what it’s been like while she was gone, and at that point I always wake up.  They aren’t sad dreams, I don’t wake up feeling sad or depressed.  I think I’d just like to let one of those dreams go on for a while instead of waking me up right away.

Here are some more thoughts…

Here are some more thoughts on music.  The Apple iTunes store now has this cool RSS feed generator that will let me see what new music is being added to the store.  I keep seeing all this new music that looks interesting.  Wouldn’t it be so cool if I could actually listen to all that music?  I’m sure I wouldn’t like all of it, probably wouldn’t like most of it, but I would likely find tons of music that I would never have even thought to try.  The only problem is I can’t afford to buy all that music, even at $9.99 a CD.  And I really don’t want to buy it all I just want to try it to see what I might like.  Then I wouldn’t mind having to buy the music I really liked.  But I would really like to be able to just request the music I would like to hear when I want to hear it and not need to store all that somewhere in my house/computer/car.   Why can’t the radio and the Internet get together and let me just select the CD I want to hear and play it for me?

Picture this, instead of an iPod with gigabytes of memory, how about an iPod with Wi-Fi like (or faster) wireless capability that could get signal everywhere.  I could theoretically listen to anything that has ever been recorded anywhere.  Wouldn’t that be cool?  Oh, and maybe put a nice screen on it too, maybe one of the new roll up flexi displays.  Then I could watch video or surf the ‘net too.

I figure if I start asking for this now it will speed up the time it takes to really happen.  I should probably patent it too 🙂

[1]Here is a photo taken…

A picture named skathumb.jpgHere is a photo taken by Chelsey the other night when we went to the Ska concert with Lindsey.  Chelsey did a pretty good job capturing the mosh pit and the dancers skanking to the music.

A picture named IMGP0442.jpgIf it’s Friday it must be concert night.  This time Chelsey came along.  She used my old film camera to take pictures.  Once I get them developed I’ll try to post some of those too.

There was an interesting segment…

There was an interesting segment on NPR’s Morning Edition this morning.  They talked with author and neurologist Alice Flaherty about hypergraphia, also known as “The Midnight Disease”, which is a compulsive need to write and is the title of her recent book.  If that link breaks search for The Midnight Disease” in the archives.

I’m sure that to some extent I have a very mild case of this.  She describes how she first started to feel compulsed to write after losing her twin babies after a premature delivery.  She describes how she started writing so much that she was writing on tiny little post-its.  The paperback book that I carry with me usually always has a dozen or so tiny little post-it notes in and or on it.  I can see this with my friends on the Widownet.  There are many there who seem to have a need to write.

There was also the interesting description of how this is based in the temporal lobe, along with manic depression, bipolar disorders, and highly emotional feelings, and epileptic disorders that affect this area of the brain.
