When your lover has gone

"When you're alone, who cares for starlit skies
When you're alone, the magic moonlight dies
At break of dawn, there is no sunrise
When your lover has gone

What lonely hours, the evening shadows bring
What lonely hours, with memories lingering
Like faded flowers, life can't mean anything
When your lover has gone"

"WHEN YOUR LOVER HAS GONE"

I sometimes listen to the Louis Armstrong Version

maybe the next day will be a little bit less difficult to survive

“So, we’re all vowed to survive and I think if — you know, if we can
just survive one more day that maybe the next day will be a little bit
less difficult to survive.”

Michael Berg father of Nicholas Berg who was captured and beheaded in Iraq last May.

threnody

Is this weblog somehow my threnody for Cindy?  I was mentioning to someone last night about how many of the songs that I have liked through the years now seem like they were actually written as a threnody.  Many of them are actually love songs, and many are songs of lost loves, but I think that most have nothing to do with mourning or grief.  Although, there are those that when I listen to them now I can’t imagine that the writer of those lyrics hasn’t been through the pain that we have been through.

“Thought I saw you today
You were standing in the sun then you turned away
And I knew it couldn’t be but my heart believed
Oh it seems like something everyday
How could you be so far away
When you’re still here
When I need you you’re not hard to find
You’re still here
I can see you in my baby’s eyes
And I laugh and cry
You’re still here “

“You’re Still Here”

Where did my story go?

Just finished a nice long story about memories, happiness, “we-ness”
and “alone-ness” and it dissappeared.  I’m posting this as a test
to see if making weblog posts exhibit the same symptoms as when I tried
to post a Story.

Calling All Angels

“and every day you gaze upon the sunset
with such love and intensity

it’s almost…it’s almost as if
if you could only crack the code
then you’d finally understand what this all means

but if you could…do you think you would
trade in all the pain and suffering?

ah, but then you’d miss
the beauty of the light upon this earth
and the sweetness of the leaving”

SURVIVAL GUIDE

“Fear, disbelief, suspicion, anger, apathy.
Short temper, moodiness. Reluctance to leave property.
Guilt over having been unable to prevent the disaster.
Confusion, numbness or flashbacks.
Difficulty in making decisions.
Excessive helpfulness to other disaster victims.
Loss of appetite.
Crying for no immediate reason.
Increased effects from allergies, colds and flu.
Rejecting outside help or feeling disappointed with outside help.
Isolation from family, friends and social activities.”

A nice list of things that happen to those who are greiving, but in this case it isn’t from a widow/widower perspective.

Band Night

I was back at Neptunes as the designated chaperone. I haven’t been out for a while and it was fun. I even got to chat with another single parent chaperone.

Uniquely

Somehow, uniquely, after these passing years, I can still see the shape, style and swirls of her hair.

Bok Tower and Gardens

“Historic Bok Sanctuary suffers direct hit”

“LAKE WALES – The Historic Bok Sanctuary, located on the highest point
in Central Florida, took a direct hit from Hurricane Charley, said park
spokeswoman Cindy Turner.

But the 205-foot
Gothic, art deco Carillon Tower, constructed in 1927, survived the
blow. The grand gardens, designed by famous landscape architect
Frederic Law Olmstead Jr., better known for the gardens at Central Park
in Manhattan, sustained wind damage.”

I thought I had heard one of the local news reporters say that the Bok Tower
had been destroyed, I’m glad to hear that it isn’t true.  THe
tower and gardens are a most beautiful place in central Florida.
