[1] Another night of music…

A picture named IMGP0282.jpg Another night of music at the State Theater.  I had a carload tonight and we all had a great time.  I even got a chance to see some of the football game between bands 🙂 This was the first concert with the new camera.  I’m still getting used to it, but it seems to work ok, and I posted a few photos.  This time I was close enough to the mosh pit to get a little bumping action 🙂

A picture named wet.jpg

I remember reading somewhere on the ‘Net about someone who was having problems with one of his utilities, electric, or telephone, or ISP or something, and he posted something about it on the Web, oh look, here it is (requires registration).  And here is the follow up story where the author receives some beer (note: original story further down the page).

I’m trying the same technique this morning but I don’t want beer just a newspaper I can read, well some beer would be ok too.

For, not the first time, the local newspaper delivery didn’t watch the weather last night and single bagged the Sunday morning newspaper. You see living in this Tropical climate it rains a lot. It may not rain all day but like this morning it rained for a few hours and dumped 3-5″ of rain in some parts of the Tampabay area. Generally the morning paper get’s double bagged on days when it rains so the paper doesn’t get soaked sitting at the end of the driveway. But for some reason, and it seems to be mainly on Sundays, they forget, don’t, or can’t double bag the paper. Of course after several inches of rain is dumped on it the paper get’s completely and I mean completely soaked. All the way through to the ads. You can see in the photo that this Sunday’s paper was wrapped in a delightful ad for some analgesic medicines. Those may com in handy ina little bit. I’m going to assume that the Sunday paper being the big advertising opportunity is wrapped in these special advertising bags. I’m going to guess that “they”, whoever “they” are, don’t want to cover up the pretty advertising with a double bag, and so instead they end up with a soaked newspaper.

This probably seems like a bunch of whining over a little spilt cloud spit. And it is, or would be, if all I had to do was call the paper and request another paper be delivered. So I tried that. I called the number for the home delivery service and it was busy. So I called again, 12 times and it was continuously busy. Either there are many whining Sunday morners out there or they got tired of the phone ringing and took it off the hook. So I try a different number and get into an automated system. My hopes are buoyed as I get into way cool menu system where I can request a re-delivery (tried to call back to see exactly what term they used, but now the system no longer works and is stuck in a loop taking you back to the main menu from any menu selection) , they have options for a missing paper, a paper missing a section, torn or damaged papers, and of course wet papers. I pick the wet paper item. Next I’m prompted for my phone number, woo hoo! they are going to look up my address and send out a replacement I think to myself, and no nasty humans involved. Not so fast, I enter my phone number and get some sort of transaction cannot be completed error, please stay on the line for the next available representative. So I start working on my rant and rave about the crappy service I got the last time this happened. You see the last time I had to do the I did the menu, waited for the representative and after 15 minutes of aggravation my satisfaction was knowing that they were sorry but they were all out of replacement papers, sorry. Well I wasn’t going to stand for that answer this time. I was going to demand that they go to the local convenience store and buy me a dry copy and bring it to my house! Yes that’s what I’m going to tell them if I ever get off this musical hold, were sorry for the wait loop. So I wait, and wait, and wait….

Of course the system works exactly as designed, I get to tired of waiting and hang up. Subsequent tries yield the infuriating main menu loop and here I am railing against the Newspaper and their delivery service here on my weblog. Now doesn’t that feel better? Not really I never got the satisfaction of complaining to some poor guy whose job it is to answer the phone and tell people the bad news that they just ain’t getting a newspaper delivered today. Instead I get to complain to you, all 8 of me regular readers 🙂

You know the one with all the big ad’s from the newspapers big advertisers. That means that when it rained early this morning the big Sunday newspaper with all those ad’s got completely soaked. It’s a pain because you have to call the newspaper and try to have another paper delivered.  Remember those analgesic ads on today’s Sunday paper noneffective plastic wrapper?  Time to take a few and think about what to do instead of reading the paper, and all those fun Sunday ads.  Maybe I’ll write something on my weblog.

We’ll have to see what…

We’ll have to see what the menu holds for tonight, when I stopped at the store last night they had some spaghetti squash and nice Plant City strawberries.  I saw a recipe for spaghetti squash somewhere that sounded good.  I can’t remember where I saw it so I may have to wing it and make it from memory.  I cleaned a couple quarts of fresh strawberries and layed them out on a sheet pan to freeze in the freezer.  Nothing like a fresh frozen berry to cool you off on a warm day.  Not that it’s that warm here right now 🙂  They make great fruit smoothies too.  A few frozen berries, a banana, a little yogurt and some milk, Yum!

Last night I just couldn’t wait for some fresh baked bread so I went ahead and fired up the bread machine and made some Bob’s Potato Bread.  I have an old 1 lb. machine and I keep trying to make 1 1/2 lb. loaves in it.  It ends making this giant mushroom looking thing that sticks to the top of the machine and makes a real mess of yummy tasting bread.  Might be time for a new bread machine.

Halley is trying to describe…

Halley is trying to describe how cold it is in the Northeast and having a hard time coming up with an approriate description.  How about this item from Cornell News I found via Fark.com, “Mars is warmer than New England

“Would you believe it’s 5…

“Would you believe it’s 5 below zero right now?” he told listeners yesterday at 6 a.m. “The only thing worse than the actual temperature right now is having the wind chill factored in.”

Unless of course you are saying that from someplace in Florida.  Now this guy has got the right idea.  He’s a Boston radio show host but sometimes does his broadcasts from Florida 🙂   How much do you want to bet it’s a Clear Channel station.

Update: It’s an Infinity station.

Seeing as it’s so cold,…

Seeing as it’s so cold, this would be a good time to fire up the oven and do some baking.  I’m thinking some Noni Afghani.  Maybe a nice hot soup to go with it, like a collard green soup, or a Pasta Fagioli.  The only problem is it’s fast food Thursday when the girls get a ride home from the rink and they pick up fast food on the way.  Maybe tomorrow night, I hope it doesn’t warm up too much by then 🙂

Maintenant une seule fleur

Nothing like a little french singing in the afternoon.

Here is a song my…

Here is a song my daughter gave me to listen to.  She said it is a real pretty song, and I think she’s right.

“Radios In Heaven” –  Plain White T’s

Your time has already come and I don’t know why
The last thing that I had heard
you were doin’ just fine
It seems like just yesterday
I was laughing with you
Playing games at Grandma’s house
well you taught me well, didn’t you?
I hope I’m just like you

Do they have radios in heaven?
I hope they do
‘Cause they’re playing my song on the radio
And I’m singing it to you

You left before I had a chance to say goodbye
But that’s the way life usually is
it just passes you by
But you can’t hold on to regrets and you can’t look back
So I’ll just be thankful for the times that I had with you
I hope I’m just like you

Do they have radios in heaven?
I hope they do
‘Cause they’re playing my song on the radio
And I’m singing it to you
If they don’t have radios in heaven
here’s what I’ll do
I can bring my guitar when my time is up and I’ll play it for you

Tell me can you hear me now
if not, then I can try to sing real loud
What’s it like up on the other side of the clouds?
I hope I’m just like you
I hope I turn out to be as good as you
