Ho Ho Ho! I got…

Ho Ho Ho!  I got to sleep in.  I heard whispers for a little while before they told me I had to get up and open presents.  That was around 7:30 am.  It’s a Merry Christmas in the K’s house.  Pictures from the new camera coming soon.

A picture named lights.jpgI’m avoiding the chores I need to get done before Santa can come so here are a few photos from the Christmas Party, plus a couple from our dinner today.  I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.  Time to wrap those last few gifts, wash those last few loads, and empty that dishwasher 🙂

Twas the night before Christmas….

Twas the night before Christmas.  And the girls and I did the traditional Christmas eve dinner at the Thirsty Marlin so Chelsey could eat some Cedar Plank Salmon.  I was able to have some sushi, Mexican Rolls.  I love wasabi!

And all through the house,  I am doing dishes, laundry, and a little last minute shopping (I really feel sorry for the guy at the grocery store looking for a present for his mother in law).

Not a daughter was stirring, Chelsey is on the computer playing Sims, and Lindsey has the phone glued to her ear while she watches TeeVee.

Broadway Joe tells Suzy Kolber…

Broadway Joe tells Suzy Kolber he’d like to kiss her, and he has to apologize.  I’d like to kiss Suzy too 🙂  If it wasn’t for the fact that he sounded to be drunk as a skunk, and was on nationwide television, what’s wrong with telling a pretty woman that you’d like to kiss her?  I know I’d never have the guts to do it, but somebody should, shouldn’t they?

Every day I see so many beautiful women and I wonder if someone tells them they are beautiful?  Hey Suzy!  I think you are really pretty!  And I would like to kiss you too.  Oh, and I’m sorry I said that (not really).

Halley was surprised [1] that…

Halley was surprised that the story about a chimp retirement farm in Louisiana was real.  We’ve had the “original” chimp retirement home here in our neighborhood since the 1950’s.  It has just been through a major renovation and will reopen to the public sometime soon.  When we went on the PKD walk down the Pinellas trail we had the chance to see the new facility from the trail side and it looks very nice.

It’s hard to be here…

It’s hard to be here at work today, with the girls out of school for Winter Break. I’m only working a half day today so I’ll be home with them soon.

I’ve talked before about the overwhelming all consuming responsibility of raising children, and doing it now as a single parent, sometimes it’s hard to describe the helplessness I feel. There used to always be the knowledge that there was someone else sharing the task of worrying about the girls. You could relax in knowing they were always “safe”, if anything happened one of us was always there. When big tragedy occurs you tend to go into a protection mode, and get the family together, go to a safe place. Know where we all are and that we are safe. We did that during 9/11. Cindy was at the school with the girls. Helping out the other families that came to pick up their children from school. It was hard being at work that day, but I felt relieved in that I knew where the girls were, and they were “safe” with Cindy.

There are so many times now when I know where they are, and I feel confident that the people they are with will take care of them, but it’s still hard to not be there with them.

Anu Garg’s in his comments…

Anu Garg’s in his comments for today’s Word of the Day.

“Yet, no matter which hand we write with, what language we speak, or what we
eat, there is something that binds us all, whether it is our preference for
a life free from fear, our efforts to make this world better for us and
for others, or our appreciation of beauty of the soul and our longing
for love.”

I really enjoy Cyndi Lauper’s…

I really enjoy Cyndi Lauper’s new CD “At Last“.  One of the songs on it is the theme from the widow/ers heart wrenching movie “Ghost“, “Unchained Melody“:

“My love, my darling,
I hunger for your touch,
Alone. Lonely time.
And time goes by, so slowly,
And time can do so much,
Are you still mine?”

The theme of the movie, from a widower’s perspective, is the desire to say goodbye.  I recently read one of Cindy’s paperback’s that was sitting on the bookshelf, “Before I Say Goodbye” by Hary Higgins Clark which has some similar themes in it.  When I started reading the book it didn’t take very long for me to realize that this book was written by a widow.  I’m not that much of a suspense reader but I enjoyed this one.  Seems wierd to me that this was one of the last books that Cindy had read.
