It sounds like I need…

It sounds like I need to divide something. Maybe it’s the joy, or, maybe it’s the grief.

“Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of a joy you must have somebody to divide it with.”

Mark Twain (1835 – 1910)

or …

“Friendship improves happiness, and abates misery, by doubling our joys, and dividing our grief.”

Joseph Addison (1672 – 1719)

I wonder how many people…

I wonder how many people have horrific flashbacks when they see the ending of the new Nickelback video “Someday“?

I think there are three at this house.

Or I could just sit and fall apart listening to Warren Zevon singing “Keep Me In Your Heart

“Sometimes when you’re doing simple things around the house
Maybe you’ll think of me and smile”

On my way to work…

On my way to work each day I drive by this tree.  It has been through a lot.  It almost looks like it’s heart has been removed.  But it still lives on, and grows despite what has happened to it.  It is one of my inspirations.

We were so inspired tonight, that even without control over our time, we were able to get the pumpkins carved for Halloween.  I can’t wait to roast the seeds. Yum!

Halley asks the question [1],…

Halley asks the question, “Is control over your time the ultimate form of power?”

I certainly think that time has more importance to me than it ever did before.  I struggle daily with trying to control time.  Making sure we all get up and are ready for the day in time to catch our rides.  Making sure we get from one after school activity to the next.  And working hard to get the homework done before time runs out at the end of each day.  It never feels like there is enough time.  I keep chasing time and it is always running away from me.

I got all the Halloween decorations down from the attic over the weekend and was only able to put up one or two decorations.  One is the witch crashing into the tree that Cindy created from scratch several years ago.  I’m sure she would have come up with something new, but I hardly have time to put up the things we have much less think of something new.  Halley talks about her Pumpkin and how she doesn’t want to carve it.  I want desperately to carve ours.  It was one of those traditions that was always mine to do with the girls.  The past few years the girls have taken over much of the carving process, but this year there are so many school projects due that I don’t think we are going to have time to put a face on our pumpkins.  Perhaps our pumpkins will just have to wear “the mask” too this year partly because of lack of control over time.

All of this is part of my attempts to realize that “it’s okay to integrate death into life“, where for me every day is a constant reminder of those that are gone, and I struggle to spend as much time as I can with the ones who are most important to me now.  My life has transitioned from whatever it was, into doing the best I can with the little time left, to raise my girls.  Alone.

I’ve been trying to figure…

I’ve been trying to figure out where the fires are in relation to where my sister lives in California.  I finally found some maps that show exactly where the fires are.

The Remote Sensing Application Center’s Rapid Response Fire Maps generated from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite data. I found these thanks to Susan Kitchens via Doc Searls site.

From there I was able to see the nearest fire was the “Happy Fire”, um yea.  Which I was able to get some details on at the Southern California Geographic Area Coordination Center Intelligence Detailed Situation Report and seems as of Saturday to be 40% contained burning only 250 acres.

Today was Chelsey’s first Freestyle 4 competition.  Dad needed some brain lube to keep from being too anxious to watch her skate.  She did great and finished third in her group! Photos are ready.

This evening was the usual,…

This evening was the usual, I run from work to the rink to pick up the girls, then off to Chelsey’s Flute lesson, while Lindsey and I run and pick up some Thai takeout food for dinner, and the sweet girl at the restaurant gives us some amazing tasting Thai Tea while we are waiting, it was like nothing I’ve ever tasted before really smokey iced tea with cream, and then it’s off to get some frog chow (crickets), and then back to pick up Chelsey after her Flute lesson, drive home and drop Lindsey off at so Chelsey and I can run back out to the skate shop to get a new skating dress for her competition Saturday, forgot to get tights so I’ll be heading back again tomorrow night, and finally home again to start working on homework.

It’s school projects night.  I’m just about exhausted, still trying to catch up on the sleep I didn’t get this past weekend, and both girls have big projects that need my assistance.  Chelsey is making a salt dough map of OCEANIA, while Lindsey needs a piece of foam core poster board cut into the shape of Clay County Florida.  It’s fun to help the girls with these school projects, but I’m soooooooo tired, and I still have to make lunches, take out the garbage and clean up the mess from school projects night.
